T.C. Ekneligoda Abstract: The paper presents a graphical technique for the rapid analysis of the complex, nonlinear equation that describes the variation of the production temperature of a horizontally-fractured geothermal well. The nomogram presented for the evaluation of the production temperature incorporates the mass flow rate, fracture width, fracture length, number of conductive fractures, host rock temperature, and the production time. The range of the fracture length considered in the nomogram varies from 100 m to 1000 m whereas host rock temperature can be selected from a range of 100 oC to 260 oC. The production temperature predicted by the nomogram agrees well with the analytical solution. The most attractive feature of the proposed technique is its extreme simplicity and speed of operation.

Heat extraction of novel underground well pattern systems for geothermal energy exploitation
The current Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) with a fractured reservoir undergoes several practical issues, such as scaling in the wellbore, the mass flow loss into the reservoir, and the challenge in designing the placement of production wells. In this paper, novel underground well pattern systems were proposed for geothermal energy exploitation. A numerical model of two kinds well pattern sy...

A variety of mechanical, chemical and thermal approaches to reservoir stimulation have been proposed and tested over more than three decades of research on Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) technology, with the primary focus at present on enhancing fracture permeability by elevating fluid pressure sufficiently to induce shear failure along pre-existing natural fractures. A critical issue in ass...
متن کاملApplication of Self-potential Measurements to Geothermal Reservoir Engineering: Characterization of Fractured Reservoirs
An “EKP-postprocessor” computational tool was developed several years ago to calculate space/time distributions of electrokinetic potentials resulting from histories of underground conditions (pressure, temperature, liquid-phase saturation, concentration of dissolved species, etc.) computed by unsteady multidimensional geothermal reservoir simulations (Ishido and Pritchett, 1996). Since that ti...
متن کاملAnalytical and Numerical Investigation of Fracture Dominated Thermo-Fluid Flow in Geothermal Reservoir
Fluid flow in most of geothermal reservoirs is dominated by fractures and their distribution. In this study, the following process of cold water injection into a fractured geothermal reservoir is considered: the cold water from a injection well advances along the fractures and gradually extract heat from the adjacent rock matrix, and eventually arrives at a production well. Both analytical and ...
